About Katy

A Few Words from Katy . . .

Hi, I’m Katy — founder of Embodied Soul. I help women build strength, move well and feel more at home in their bodies. My approach combines thoughtful strength training, mobility, yoga and embodied practices, creating space for you to build confidence, reconnect with yourself and discover what your body is truly capable of.

How I Work

I believe strength and stillness belong together. Strength gives us capability, resilience and trust in our bodies. Stillness gives us space to listen, restore and reconnect. Together, they create a way of living in your body that is both grounded and sustainable.

I don’t believe your body needs to be fixed, punished or constantly improved. I believe it deserves to be understood, challenged appropriately, cared for and trusted. That philosophy shapes the way I teach — whether we’re lifting heavy, exploring mobility, slowing things down or working with something deeper.

My approach is practical and grounded, while leaving room for curiosity, intuition and the complexity of being human. I draw from strength training, mobility, yoga, embodiment and nervous-system-aware practices, adapting what I offer to the person in front of me rather than following a one-size-fits-all formula.

I’ve taught more than 2000 hours of movement classes, but I’ve learned just as much from my own body as I have from formal training. My own journey has taken me through yoga, thru-hiking, running, strength training, healing and some significant life transitions.

I’m interested in the kind of change that becomes part of your life — not another thing you have to perform perfectly.

I live in the Tasman region with my daughter, and I’m a big believer in real-life strength — the kind that helps you lift, walk, explore, play, rest and meet whatever life puts in front of you.

My Journey

Movement has been my medicine — from navigating grief and solo parenting to walking Te Araroa and completing an ultra-marathon.

I began with silent meditation, then trained in yoga, energy healing, and trauma-informed practices that felt more compassionate and real. Later, lifting heavy weights reconnected me to strength, trust, and self-respect.
My credentials include:
  • REPS Certified Personal Trainer (Fit Futures)
  • Mindful Strength Mentorship (Kathryn Bruni-Young)
  • 500+ hours of Yoga Training (Heart & Bones Yoga, Yoga for All, Mataji)
  • Certified Theta Healing® Practitioner & Instructor
  • Embodied Processing Practitioner
  • Menopause 2.0 (Stacy Sims)
